I headed out to the Thames Festival this weekend as a final hurrah to summer. The festival is all along the Thames (hence the name) and it features vendors, educational booths, performances, displays, all sorts of exhibitions to see, plus some cool nighttime fireworks and bonfires that I missed out on. I managed to wander around for a couple hours before the crowds got to me, and I had to head back to Brixton. I didn't remember to take many pictures of the festival itself, but I did snap a few of my favorite places of the day. Here's a few photos of what I saw:
The HMS Belfast, which I kind of want to go tour. |
Tower Bridge with the Paralympics logo |
There was an amazing Tom Stoddart exhibition along the river bank, showcasing his coverage of some of the worst human rights violations and tragedies, as well as some incredibly hopeful turning points in history. AMAZING. |
I felt a bit down after the Stoddart exhibition, but then I followed the Latin jams I heard and stumbled upon this gem: a pick-up Zumba session! I loved how everyone was dancing and having fun together. A stark contrast to the photography exhibition. |

More Zumba dance party |

Fun to see the bridge opened to allow a large sailboat to pass. |
All over London, huge screens have been set up outdoors to watch the Olympics and Paralympics. |
I wandered down to Borough Market for a peek around and some lunch. It's like a giant Pike Place Market! |
Borough Market spikey fish |
The people of the UK love their "neeps" AKA turnips |
It was hot, so I needed a fizzy wine cooler to get through the afternoon. |
Paella!!! |
My lunch was bomb! |
The Millennium Bridge lives! He Who Shall Not Be Named didn't blow it up after all! :) |
The Globe Theatre |

I'm at the Globe! |
