Last week started off pretty normally, with my only major excitement being my new jumper (aka sweater). I think it's perfect for an English teacher...what do you think?
The kids sure got a kick out of it, and it's now one of my favorite purchases in England. The rest of the week carried on as normal, but it did get very cold. The kind where you can almost smell the snow coming...

Crisp morning walk to school on Wednesday. |

Even chillier in the afternoon! |
On Thursday, I took myself to see Shrek the Musical, which was such a fun show! I got the ticket from getintolondontheatre.co.uk, which is offering discounted tickets for many London shows in January and February. My ticket was only ten pounds (about $16)! Tickets that cheap certainly don't buy you a very good seat, and I was literally dizzy when I first sat down up in the tippy top, nosebleeds seats, but I quickly adjusted to the perspective and found looking down at the show kind of fun, like a little bird watching from above. I also got a really neat view of the dragon they released at the end of the show. She was hanging up in the rafters with us, and they released her down to do her thing on the stage, then she came back up and hovered right over our heads. A definite perk to being way up there.
 |
This doesn't even really show you just how high up I was, but you'll get somewhat of an idea. |
Despite the nosebleed seats, I loved the show and feel lucky to have gotten such a bargain. The songs were really fun, the sets gorgeous, and they even had some fun special effects and really incredible puppeteering.
I got home late Thursday night and was really tired Friday, which is why the snow was such a welcomed relief on Friday! It started snowing in the morning and continued all afternoon. Of course, the girls went absolutely nuts, and I couldn't help but join them in their excitement a little.

The girls running around the courtyard at break, very excited to be in the snow. |

Went outside at break to take some photos. I'm laughing here because
some little darling has just thrown a snowball at my leg... |
We managed to teach two more classes after break, but keeping the girls' attention was definitely a challenge. By lunch time, they were literally bursting with energy. From the warmth of the staff room, we could see the girls running around like lunatics at lunch having snow ball fights.
 |
Fancy a snowball fight, anyone? |
 |
Run for cover! |

View from the school windows of the surrounding area. |

Here comes the snow!
 |
Sports court kind of reminds me of Hogwarts in the snow...well, maybe not quite... |
|
I was surprised the girls were throwing so much snow around, especially since they'd all now have to sit through two more lessons in freezing, soppy wet uniforms. But luckily for the girls, the head teacher cancelled the school day early and everyone got to go home after lunch. Instead of going home, a few of us decided to walk down to a nearby pub and pass the afternoon in true British style.

Finally getting to wear my Hunter Wellies in the snow! |

Snow day! Yay! Here's Lauren, Adam and I leaving school. |

Think we're excited about the snow? |

London houses are even cuter in the snow! |

Snowy walk to the pub |

And we've arrived! |
Getting released early because of the snow was such a treat, and I enjoyed spending time with my work friends. By early evening, we had a quite a group gathered at the Bedford. Later in the evening, I headed off to Kings Cross station to meet Fulbrighter Christy who came to London this weekend to go to the Harry Potter Studios, but that's another story for another post. :)
