Blue Skies Smiling On Me

On Saturday I decided to head into central London to check out a wildlife photography exhibit I had been dying to see at the Natural History Museum. It was a gorgeous, crisp day, and the bright blue sky was actually out for the first time in I don't even know how long. It's funny how much just seeing the blue sky can improve your state of mind!

There was a long line to get into the museum, which I thought was a bit odd, but I waited anyways. I guess lots of other people had the same bright idea as me.

Waiting to get into the Natural History Museum.
When I finally got in about 15 minutes later I was so disappointed to learn that the exhibit was sold out for the day. Unfortunately, Saturday was its second to last day, so I guess it wasn't meant to be! Not to be put off too much, I decided to make the most of the day and had a good wander around the rest of the museum, which houses fascinating exhibits about loads of topics, including some impressive fossil remains.

Riding up through the planet on the escalator.

Ain't that the truth!?!

I wish there was a person in front of this so you could see how frighteningly large this fish-dinosaur guy is...
The museum is gorgeous with beautiful stone work throughout.

Truthfully, dinosaurs and other large beasts kind of freak me out...

Reminds me a bit of the Smithsonian

Hope that guy on the grand staircase doesn't drop the stroller!

My maximum attention span for a museum is about an hour, no matter how interesting the exhibits are, so after a while I was ready to go. The best thing about this museum, and so many other amazing museums in London, is that admission is free! That means you don't have to feel pressured to see every little thing because you can pop back over anytime you want. The Natural History Museum is one of my favorite buildings in all of London. It's just stunning. I wish I had a panoramic feature on my camera so I could capture the whole building in one shot.

I decided it was too gorgeous outside not to enjoy the day, so I had a wander around the South Kensington area. A friend from work told me about a delicious bakery just behind the station and since I was close I made my way down there. Oh what a treat! My cupcake-loving sister would have been in hog heaven if she'd been here!

Another line to get in but well worth the wait!

A picked up a couple cupcakes to go (red velvet and vanilla with pink frosting), then headed up to Hyde Park to see if the tulips were in bloom yet. I love how many amazing green spaces London has, and I was excited to see if it was lit up with pretty flowers yet. Turns out it's still a couple weeks too early for spring flowers, but the park was alive and full of people as always.

This is the swimming area...but who actually swims in the Thames??? Yuck...

Cupcake time!!! Which to choose, which to choose???

Red velvet! :) Delish!

Sugar high happy!

These guys want cupcakes, too!

All those tulips are just itchin' to come up!

The famous Speaker's Corner at Hyde Park, where people can get up on stage (their "soap box") and rant to the
listening crowd about whatever they want each Sunday.

These kids were practicing their skate moves across from Speaker's Corner.

Hello

Gate Art

I felt a bit frozen by five o'clock so I headed back to the tube and back home to Brixton. Even though I didn't get to see the wildlife exhibit, I still enjoyed my afternoon, especially the blue skies and sunshine.
