I've always kind of wondered what I would look like wearing one of those a big, bright red clown's noses. I finally got my chance to give it a go on Friday, March 15, which was Red Nose Day. The day is basically a major fundraising event in the UK organized by Comic Relief, which was started 25 years ago when a group of comedians got together and decided to raise money for charities in the UK and Africa. You can learn more about the day at this site: www.rednoseday.com.
To support Red Nose Day, you can buy any number of memorabilia items, included fun red noses. People also make generous donations to the cause as well. Then later in the evening, special fundraising programs are on TV with top celebrities and performers doing their thing while the telephone lines are open to accept donations. This year, the event raised more than £75,000! It's really quite a big deal and a very neat tradition.
